| The best kept secret in Orange County became a little more public as Irvine City Councilwoman Beth Krom announced she was exploring a run for Congress against Republican John Campbell in the 48th District. "I'm seriously thinking about running against John Campbell," Krom told a group of more than 40 at an event sponsored by the Orange County League of Conservation Voters in Santa Ana. "He's never had to run for his seat, he's never felt threatened." Krom joined former Huntington Beach Mayor Debbie Cook, Costa Mesa City Councilwoman Katrina Foley and environmental and progressive activists from throughout Orange County to brainstorm about ways to elect more progressive candidates to local office. Krom told the group that Orange County Republicans believed they had a firm grip on power. "They believe that Orange County will always be as it has been, but it's not that way now," the outspoken Krom said. "We will only have ourselves to blame for sitting around twiddling our thumbs. The time is now to seize this opportunity." |
